Traquair Bear

Bronze on oak base, height c.22cm, 1986

Made as a prize for a treasure hunt organised by Traquair House, Peebles-shire, said to be Scotland's oldest inhabited house, where the "Bear Gates" were locked after the Jacobite rebellion in 1746, never to be opened until a Stewart is again monarch of Scotland. They have never been reopened.
